All you have to do to find free web hosting is do a Google search for 'free web hosting'. There is an abundance of free web hosts out there ready to give you hosting for no charge. Often, free hosting is limited, though, by not offering support for PHP, CGI, and other scripts (usually just HTML, JavaScript, and Flash). Many free hosting providers will also place their banners on your pages, and some will even serve popups to your visitors (and some paid services will do the same thing). There are, however, some free hosts which will host your site with no ads, while others offer features that make the ads worthwhile. My intent is not to provide a rundown of all free hosting services, but to offer a select few which stand out due to the features they offer. |
125MB.com - 125MB.com offers exactly that; 125MB of free space, plus 5GB of metered bandwidth. They are unique in allowing adult sites to be hosted on their service for free as well; being that they only place Google Adsense banners on the pages and not adult oriented advertising. They only offer sub-domain hosting (e.g: your-user-name.125mb). Their file manager is easy to use for newbies and the reliability of their service has been good. Only basic file types are supported. The only downside is that there is zero support. They have links to a support forum and a contact e-mail, but neither of these work.
50Webs.com - Probably the best free host out there. They offer 60MB of space with unlimited bandwidth, unlimited domain hosting, and no ads; there is a 300kb maximum file size though. Signing up, however, is a bit tricky if you are looking to host a domain; just sign up for a sub-domain, then enter your domain information in your account manager. Their free hosting only supports basic file types.
ATSPACE.COM - Atspace offers 50MB of space with unlimited bandwidth, unlimited domain hosting, and no ads; there is a maximum file size of 200kb as well. Signing up for an account is easy; probably the easiest of all free hosts; and they have an easy to use account manager. Their downside is that, due to regulations in their home country of Germany, have filters on certain keywords (eBay, Paypal, Amazon.com) which prevent your site from working if it contains any of those keywords in the text or links to those sites. Their free hosting only supports basic files.
AwardSpace - AwardSpace is a sister hosting service of Atspace. They offer 200MB of space with 5GB of metered bandwidth. You can host 2 domains and up to 5 subdomains with the free service. PHP hosting is provided with 1 MySQL database. They, presently, place no ads on your site. They filter keywords as does Atspace. Unlike Atspace, AwardSpace does not offer good support; in good part due to a flaming asshole they have allowed to moderate their support forum, who will delete posts at will. This in no way affects their hosting, or the reliability thereof, but it makes it difficult to get an answer to any question you may have.
Cool Toad - Cool Toad does not provide a lot of feature with their free hosting, but it is included when you sign up for a free e-mail account; making it a convenient parking place for a site as you have the hosting anyway. Their hosting only supports HTML files, JPGs, and GIFs; they do not support JS files, but you can embed the JavaScript in your HTML files. Your site will be hosted as a directory (e.g.: cooltoad/your-user-name). They will place a banner on top of your pages. The reliability of their service is high; it may be slow at times, but it is rarely down. I do not know the maximum space or file size; as they provide 100MB with the e-mail account, it is probably a portion of that. You do need to sign in to your e-mail once evry 30 days to keep it active, but it will not affect your site if you forget.
Free-Space Free-Space offers 255mb of file storage with unlimited bandwidth for adult and non-adult sites. Upload is only available through their browser based file manager with a maximum of 9 upload fields at a time. They place no ads on your hosted pages, but you do get treated to popups while you are using the file manager or sign-in to their site. Sub-domain hosting only is available with basic file support; no php or cgi. Free-Space is the only free host which will host adult sites with no advertising; for the present time, though.
